I recently bought the wireless router mentioned in the title but it shipped without the setup wizard as it is refurbished. I have been searching the Netgear site for ages but thus far have been unable to find a download for it.

I know you can install routers manually but am a noob when it comes to networks and am not confident in my ability to perform this task after reading it in the manual. Therefore, I would be most grateful if someone could post a direct link to where I could download this setup wizard. Thank you.

I'm running Windows 7 professional 64 bit as my OS.

I don't have your model of Netgear router but, I just followed the manual never used the cd to install. It came with one of those mini discs. If you follow the manual install steps you should not have a problem.

Do I need a modem? If so can I use my old router for this purpose?

I should maybe have been more specific in my last question:

In the manual set up guide it says I need a modem and the router I mentioned in the title.

With regards the modem I have two questions:

1. Is the modem necessary as I do not use one with my current router?

2. If it is necessary can I use this: Netgear wireless adsl2 modem router model DG834G?

Hi cas34. I've got a WNR3500 on my network. It doesn't support ADSL, so you will need to use your modem with it. This does add some complexity to the setup you will need to use, but I'm happy to offer my assistance if it helps.

If that's the one you've been using so far, then I don't see why not.

I shall attempt the manual set up tomorrow when I get home from work and be sure to let you know how I get on.

Personally, id set it up as follows;

Netgear DG834G - IP:192.168.1.1 - DHCP: Off - Wireless: On - NAT: on

WNR3500 - IP:192.168.1.2 - DHCP: On (It will act as your DHCP host) - DHCP pool start IP: 192.168.1.3 - DHCP pool end: 192.168.1.254 - NAT: off - Wireless: Same SSID and password as before, but set it a couple of channels higher or lower than before.

Will be sure to follow that tomorrow and post back with ow I got on.

Forgot to mention, on the WNR3500, you will have to connect your ethernet cables (including the one going to the ADSL modem) to one of the four ethernet ports. The 'Internet' port can only be used with a Cable ISP.

Unfortunately I can't do this tonight as my gf needs the internet tonight :(
