The official Marshmallow update for Samsung Nexus 10 is not going to happen because Google has dropped support for the tablet, but thankfully, as was the case with Nexus 4 Marshmallow update (one more ROM) and Nexus 7 Marshmallow update, there is AOSP code based custom ROM now available for Nexus 10 too.
Yes Nexus 10 users, within a week of Nexus 5, 6, 9 and 7 (2013) receiving the official Marshmallow update, you get to run Android 6.0 running on your devices too. That’s cool, right?
The custom ROM that will update your Nexus 10 to Marshmallow comes from Dmitry Grinberg, who brought us the Nexus 4 ROM before anyone else — you owe him a thank if you like his work.
The ROM is quite good, and even though there are chances it’s rough at some edges, you are still good to go for it as your daily driver. And let’s not forget it’s Android 6.0 when it wasn’t supposed to be, at least officially.
Let’s have a look at how to install the Nexus 10 Marshmallow update using AOSP custom ROM.
As said above, this is the work of Dmitry Grinberg, and not our own work, so big thanks to him.
Use the Droid Info app, to determine the codename of your Nexus 10. If it is exactly the one specified above, then it should be compatible with the 6.0 custom ROM we have here.

Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files.
Required: You will need to have TWRP recovery installed on your device to be able to install Marshmallow custom ROM and Google Apps (Gapps). Check out our page on Nexus 10 TWRP recovery for flashing Gapps.

Step 1.Download the Marshmallow ROM and gapps file from above.
Step 2. Connect your device to PC and transfer the ROM and gapps file to it. Disconnect the device then. Remember the location of the files.
Step 3. Boot your Nexus 10 into recovery mode. If you are rooted, you can use Quick Boot app from play store. To manually boot into recovery mode, do this:
You will enter recovery mode soon, and should see TWRP recovery. If you see 3e recovery, then you need to install TWRP recovery for this.
Step 4. [Optional] Once in TWRP, create a backup of your device. Tap on Backup, and then select all the partitions for back. Now do the swipe action at bottom to start creating a backup for emergency cases. This backup is really a lifesaver!
Step 5. Do a Factory Reset. On TWRP’s main screen, tap on Wipe, then advanced wipe, and now make sure you have selected these partitions: dalvik cache, data, system and cache. Then do the Swipe action at bottom to confirm it.
Step 6.UnmountSystem now. Use the TWRP’s mount menu, and then deselect the System from there, so that it’s not mounted while we flash the ROM.
Step 7. Now, install the ROM file. On TWRP’s homescreen, tap on Install, and then locate the ROM file and tap on it. Then do the Swipe action at bottom to begin flashing the update.
Step 8. Tap on Home button to go back. Now, install the Gapps the same way you installed Marshmallow ROM on your Nexus 10.
Step 9. When it’s done, tap on Reboot system button to restart the device.
That’s it.

A few days after the Nexus 4 Toolkit was released, now there’s everything possible for the Nexus 10 tablet with the toolkit being released by the XDA developers. There are a lot of developer options and changes that can be done to the Nexus 10 tablet, using the toolkit. From installing drivers to rooting, backing up and restoring the device, the single toolkit does most of the job for the user who wanted to get things done in an easy way.
The GOOGLE NEXUS 10 TOOLKIT V1.3.0 does the following jobs:
NANDROID Backup –
The Nexus 10 Toolkit would perform a FULL NANDROID Backup of your system (Boot, Cache, Data, Recovery and System) via adb and save in Custom Recovery format on your PC, and this backup can be later Restored via CWM Recovery
For those who are wondering whether it is possible to root the Nexus 10 using this toolkit without unlocking the bootloader, it isn’t possible because you would need to have the bootloader unlocked as the booting and flashing of images can be done only when the unlock is done. You can again lock the bootloader after rooting the device.
Rarely there are users who might not be able to install the drivers of the Nexus 10 in their Windows 8 OS, and that’s an issue with the Driver Signature Enforcement. Here’s what you need to do:
